Why Explora Journeys Feels More Like a Luxury Boutique Hotel at Sea
I sailed aboard EXPLORA I on an 8-day voyage from Miami to San Juan, and it completely changed my perception of luxury cruising.
From the moment I stepped onboard, it was clear this wasn’t a traditional cruise experience. Explora Journeys feels more like a private yacht or sophisticated European boutique hotel, with spacious suites, elevated dining, and an atmosphere designed around relaxation and wellness.
What are the suites like on Explora Journeys?
The suites were one of the biggest surprises of the trip.
Every detail felt thoughtful and intentionally designed, from the Dyson hairdryer and soft nighttime lighting to the vanity area tucked inside the closet. The flow of the suite simply made sense.
A few standout features included:

Quiet luxury details like rubber-coated hangers and elegant lighting
The overall experience felt more like staying in a high-end hotel than a cruise ship stateroom. Even entry-level suites aboard EXPLORA I are oversized compared to many luxury cruise lines, and every suite includes a private ocean-facing terrace.
How is the food on Explora Journeys?
Exceptional. Dining quickly became one of the highlights of the sailing. The food felt fresh, beautifully presented, and genuinely restaurant-quality throughout the ship. The Emporium Marketplace became an early favorite thanks to its global cuisine, fresh pasta, and made-to-order seafood options.
Other standout dining venues included:
Fil Rouge
French-inspired cuisine in an elegant setting that was also one of my favorite breakfast spots onboard.
Med Yacht Club
Mediterranean dishes inspired by Italy, Greece, Spain, and France.
Sakura
A stylish Pan-Asian restaurant serving authentic and flavorful dishes.
Marble & Co. Grill
A refined European steakhouse with premium cuts and seafood.
One of the most memorable experiences was Anthology, a specialty tasting experience featuring an incredible multi-course chef-driven menu. I also loved The Chef’s Kitchen cooking class where we learned to make paella, and it ended up being one of the most fun afternoons of the trip.
Even casual spots onboard felt elevated. Crema Café quickly became my go-to for specialty coffees, pastries, juices, and ocean views throughout the day.

What Is the Atmosphere Like Onboard Explora Journeys?
The best way to describe it is relaxed luxury. Unlike traditional cruise lines that focus heavily on nonstop activities and large production shows, Explora Journeys creates a more sophisticated and calming atmosphere.

The ship never felt overly busy or commercial. The experience is intimate, polished, and highly personalized.

From spa access and fitness classes to the overall slower pace onboard, the experience emphasizes well-being and connection to the ocean.

If you are looking for a cruise that feels elegant, spacious, and genuinely relaxing, absolutely.
Explora Journeys delivers a luxury experience that feels modern, thoughtful, and refreshingly different from traditional cruising. Between the exceptional dining, beautiful suites, and yacht-inspired atmosphere, this was one of the most memorable cruise experiences I’ve had.
