Venice, Italy – June 4, 2025 – In a tradition-steeped ceremony at the Fincantieri-Marghera shipyard, Oceania Cruises officially began construction on its next groundbreaking vessel: Oceania Sonata™. With capacity for 1,460 passengers, Oceania Sonata will be the cruise line's largest ship to date. As the first ship in the new Sonata Class, this steel cutting event signals more than the start of physical construction—it marks the brand’s next leap forward in small-ship, culinary- and destination-focused cruising.

As longtime partners of Oceania Cruises with behind-the-scenes access to executive previews and deployment strategy, Cruise Insider clients will be the first to benefit from this evolution in refined luxury.

Why Oceania Sonata Represents a Defining Moment for Discerning Travelers

“Oceania Sonata heralds the dawn of a new era in luxury cruising,” shared Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises. “Together with Fincantieri, we have crafted ships that stand as some of the most acclaimed examples of luxury, elegance, comfort, and Italian craftsmanship at sea.”

Sonata is the ninth vessel in Oceania’s fleet and the first of an entirely new class—the Sonata Class—which will prioritize culinary artistry, destination immersion, and elevated guest experiences in ways not seen before from the brand. She will be followed by her sister ship, Oceania Arietta™, further expanding the brand’s commitment to delivering luxury at sea on an intimate, small-ship scale.

Inside the Sonata Class Vision: Spacious Design, Rich Amenities, Refined Experiences

Although technical details remain closely held by the shipbuilding team at Fincantieri, what we do know is that Sonata will be the most spacious and amenity-rich ship in Oceania’s history. As the brand that pioneered elevated cuisine at sea, guests can expect even more focus on gastronomic innovation, personalized service, and immersive itinerary design.

Sonata follows in the design lineage of Oceania Marina™, Riviera™, Vista®, and Allura™, all developed with Fincantieri, Oceania’s trusted shipbuilding partner for nearly two decades. The consistent thread? Italian elegance, superb engineering, and guest-centric layout that maximizes comfort without sacrificing intimacy.

Debuting in 2027: What to Expect from Oceania Sonata’s Inaugural Season

Oceania Sonata will set sail on her maiden voyage in summer 2027. While itineraries have not yet been released, Cruise Insider has confirmed with Oceania’s leadership team that Sonata will feature destination-rich routes consistent with the line’s emphasis on cultural depth and port-intensive journeys.

As soon as official itineraries and suite categories are released, Cruise Insider clients will receive priority notification—and the opportunity to pre-register for preferred sailings.

Why Cruise Insider Clients Will Benefit First from the Sonata Launch

As a top-tier partner of Oceania Cruises, Cruise Insider will receive access to Oceania Sonata’s inaugural sailings and suites before the general public. This means our clients can lock in highly sought-after staterooms, secure exclusive bonuses, and work with advisors who understand every nuance of the ship and brand.

When itinerary details go live, our clients will be at the front of the line—before inventory opens to the broader market.

Oceania + Cruise Insider: A Legacy of Early Access and Expert Advantage

When Oceania Allura was announced, our experts helped dozens of clients secure top-category suites during the exclusive presale window. Thanks to direct coordination with Oceania’s senior reservations team, our early-access clients consistently booked high-demand itineraries and received exclusive perks.

Now, with Sonata, we’re continuing that legacy—only this time, with even more exclusive benefits, including:

  • First access to inaugural voyage bookings

  • Priority suite selection

  • Exclusive shipboard credit up to $600
